St Thomas More School has been awarded UNICEF’s Rights Respecting School Award (RRSA). As a Catholic school we model and share with the children the teachings of Jesus, as set out in our mission statement, and this underpins the foundations of our rights respecting journey.

What is the Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA)?

The RRSA recognises the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and works alongside our school ethos. The award is based on the principles of equality, dignity, respect, non-discrimination and participation. At STM we value these principles as they support and enhance our Catholic Christian ethos.

We have placed Rights Respecting at the heart of our planning, policies, practice and ethos.  We teach our children about their rights and model respect in all our relationships. Each class draws up a charter at the beginning of the academic year, thus ensuring that children understand how to behave towards one another and other people.
